School Success Model - delivering quality support for every NSW public school

As part of Education Week, P&C Federation is co-hosting this webinar with the Department of Education NSW to share with parents and carers some of the work being done to support NSW public schools in the delivery of quality education.

The way the Department supports NSW public schools is changing. From 2022 all teachers can access universal resources designed to help their planning and practice in classrooms. All principals now receive greater support based on their school’s level of learning and support needs.

The School Success Model is the Department’s plan for lifting student success. It’s about staff – principals, teachers and corporate teams – coming together to respond to and solve student learning needs and challenges so that every student benefits from the best teaching and learning the NSW public education system has to offer them.

The webinar will share experiences from two schools, Mount Brown Public School and Minchinbury Public School, who have engaged with the School Success Model support offerings. At the webinar, both school leaders will share how this support is improving learning outcomes for students and the value of this support for parents, carers and the school community.

Natalie Walker

President, P&C Federation NSW

Natalie Walker is the Far West Councillor & elected President of NSW P&C Federation. She resides in Forbes, Central West NSW, with her husband and two children who attend Forbes High School. Natalie is also an active member of Forbes High School P&C Association, currently in the role of Secretary.

As a passionate advocate for (and product of) public education, Natalie is deeply committed through her professional and volunteer work to ensuring all children and young people get the best start in life. Based in NSW, this means her effort is focussed on strengthening the foundations of key organisations – and particularly the NSW P&C Federation – as valuable stakeholders, partners and contributors to NSW public schools and the system they operate in.

Shannon Rivers

Relieving Principal, Mount Brown Public School, NSW Department of Education

Following Public School. She is passionate about developing relationships with parents and carers and the Mount Brown PS community to support every student to learn, grow and achieve. Shannon is focused on building a learning community that inspires every student. She has been leading Mount Brown Public School as the Relieving Principal since 2022. Prior to this, Shannon worked with the leadership team at Mount Brown Public School in the role of Assistant Principal.

Emma Mansfield

Project Leader (CEO), Capability, Implementation and School Excellence, NSW Department of Education

Emma Mansfield is currently working as Leader of the Capability, Implementation and School Excellence team in the NSW Department of Education and is a nationally certified Lead Teacher. Throughout her career, Emma has worked in a range of different teaching and leadership roles both within schools and across the national and state education systems but has most recently been the R/Principal at Macarthur Girls High School. Emma is currently leading the team who has developed the Universal Resources Hub and has responsibility for ensuring that all resources and supports available to schools are high quality, evidence based and linked to the needs of schools. She is passionate about using her school based experiences to ensure that the system provides the best supports to schools as possible.

Jess Ruscica

Assistant Principal, Mount Brown Public School, NSW Department of Education

Jess Ruscica is an Assistant Principal at Mount Brown Public School. She is dedicated to student wellbeing and Aboriginal Education. Jess works with families and the community to promote an inclusive environment to ensure all students develop a sense of belonging. She coordinates large scale creative arts activities and project-based learning activities that build on wellbeing strategies that are embedded in the school community. Jess has been at Mount Brown for 7 years and is a vital member of the executive team.
